Clergy members from Michigan gathered at various locations across the state Tuesday to discuss their position on Proposal 2 which will appear on the ballot Nov. 2. The proposal would amend Michigan's Constitution to recognize marriage and other similar unions as between a man and woman. The Rev. Joe Summers center of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Ann Arbor and several other members of the clergy shared their views of the proposal from a religious standpoint. Others pointed out same-sex marriages already are against the law at both the state and federal level rendering the amendment's backers' basic argument moot. The panel also featured three openly gay clergy members. The press conference was held at Michigan Equality 115 W. Allegan St. in Lansing. -
